Registering for the Festival

  1. In order to participate in the Festival, you or your ensemble must register using the Festival’s online registration system. Attempts to register by any other means will not be accepted.
  2. The Festival reserves the right to reject any submitted registration that the Festival deems to be incompatible with the aims or objectives of the Festival, that violates any of the Festival Rules & Regulations, or that contains repertoire the Festival deems unsuitable or inappropriate.
  3. Registration is split into early bird, regular, and late periods. Registrations submitted during the early bird period are subject to a discount in fees. Registrations submitted during the late period will be subject to scaling late fees.
  4. When registering for the Festival, participants must pay their registration fees. A solo performer must pay their fees online while completing their registration, using the methods made available by the Festival, while an ensemble may either pay the fees online or request an invoice be submitted by the Festival to the ensemble’s host institution — school, church, community organisation, charity, and so on. 
  5. Registration fees must be paid in order for a participant to be scheduled to perform.
  6. Once the regular registration period for a given category of registration closes, registration fees paid are non-refundable.

Changes to Registrations

  1. You may make changes to your registration by contacting the Festival. Changes will be accepted by contacting the Festival at any time after the end of the registration period. Details or changes for a competitive performance submitted on or after 1 March of the current Festival year may result in the performance being disqualified upon review by the Festival.

General Restrictions

  1. A solo or ensemble participant may register in any number of different classes, but may only register once in a given class.

Solo Performer Registrations

Adult and Child Performers

  1. A child performer (Festival age of 18 or younger) may enter any class except adult classes, except where specified otherwise.
  2. A young adult performer (Festival age of 19 to 28) may enter any class including adult classes, except where specified otherwise.
  3. An adult performer (Festival age of 29 or older) may enter any adult or all ages class, but may not enter any other class, except where specified otherwise.

Conservatory Level Requirements

  1. If a class has a Conservatory level requirement, solo performers may only register in that class if their level of study satisfies that requirement.
  2. Solo performers who are not taking Conservatory exams must estimate a current level of study with their teacher and use that level for the purpose of entering classes.
  3. A solo performer registered in at least one competitive class matching their level of study may register in up to one competitive class of the next higher level.

Age Requirements
Keep in mind the restrictions on classes for child, young adult, and adult performers detailed above.

  1. If a class has an age requirement, unless otherwise specified, solo performers may only register in that class if their Festival age satisfies that requirement.

Other Requirements

  1. If a class has some other entry requirement, solo performers may only register in that class if they satisfy that requirement.

Ensemble Registrations

General Eligibility

  1. Any given individual performer may be a member of two or more duets, trios, or ensembles that are registered in the same competitive class.
  2. Any person may be a teacher, director, conductor, or collaborative pianist/accompanist of two or more duets, trios, or ensembles registered in the same competitive class.

Age Requirements

  1. Ensembles containing performers of any age may enter an all ages class.
  2. If a class has an age requirement, unless otherwise specified:
    • Duets and trios may only register in that class if the oldest performer in the ensemble satisfies that requirement;
    • Any other ensemble may only register in that class if at least two-thirds of the ensemble's performers satisfy that requirement.
    • Adult Classes: An ensemble with a majority of young adult performers aged 19 years or older may enter adult or all ages classes, in addition to classes matching their age cohort, while an ensemble with a majority of adult performers may only enter adult or all ages classes.

Grade Requirements

  1. If a class has a scholastic or academic grade requirement, any ensemble may only register in that class as long as all performers in the ensemble satisfy that requirement in the current school year.

Other Requirements

  1. If a class has some other entry requirement, ensembles may only register in that class if the ensemble as a whole or each member of the ensemble satisfies that requirement, whichever is applicable.

Registering Repertoire Selections

  1. When performing a repertoire selection in a competitive class, a solo or ensemble participant may not perform that same repertoire in any other class in this Festival, not even non-competitive or participation classes.
  2. A solo participant, duet, trio, or small ensemble may not perform repertoire selections that they have performed at this Festival in previous years on a competitive basis.
  3. A large ensemble may not repeat repertoire selections in consecutive years on a competitive basis; they may, however, repeat repertoire as long as they are performed non-consecutively.
  4. Repertoire selections must also meet any other requirements specified by these Rules & Regulations, by particular instructions within each discipline, or within each class’s description.
