RULES & REGULATIONS
Adjudication Classes in this discipline are adjudicated competitively except where otherwise specified.
Eligibility Each category of class in this discipline specifies the eligibility of performer to enter classes within that category.
Instrumentation Each class in this discipline specifies its permitted instrumentation. If a class specifies brass instrument, a performer of any such instrument may enter that class. If a class specifies brass duet or trio or brass ensemble, the ensemble entering such a class must satisfy the definitions of brass duets, trios, or ensembles.
Repertoire Each class specifies the quantity of repertoire selections required for that class in its description. If a class permits performance of more than one selection, multiple selections must be contrasting - distinct from one another in style, mood, tempo, and so on. Selections may be accompanied or unaccompanied. When in doubt, the adjudicator determines the suitability of a repertoire selection for its class.
Classical Repertoire Selections in classical categories must be art music or "classical" repertoire. They may be Conservatory selections drawn from an RCM or CC repertoire list, or they may be the performer's Own Choice. Selections not drawn from a Conservatory list must match any historical or stylistic characteristics of the Conservatory lists specified in a class name, if there is one; otherwise they may be freely chosen unless the class includes some other repertoire restriction. If a class specifies a Conservatory level, selections performed in that class must match or approximately match its level; otherwise, they must be suited to the technical proficiency of the performer or performers.
Popular Repertoire Selections in popular categories may be from any popular genre, such as jazz, pop, rock, hip-hop, country, folk, and so on, instumental works of music theatre, or chosen from film, television, video games, or similar media. They must be suited to the technical proficiency of the performer or performers.
Multi-Movement Works When performing two or more movements from a multi-movement work, you combine such movements into a single selection, and may not perform them as distinct selections. These movements must be contrasting where possible. When performing multiple movements from a multi-movement work in a class, you may combine two or more movements from the work together according to the rules specific to the class's category.
RULES & REGULATIONS
Eligibility Except in adult classes, the oldest member of a duet or trio determines the class that duet or trio may enter. Any duet or trio containing at least one performer aged 19 or older may enter a class permitting adult performers, while any duet or trio containing at least one performer aged 29 or older may only enter a class permitting adult performers.
Multi-Movement Works When performing a multi-movement work, you may combine up to two movements from such a work together into a single selection, as long as the total performance time does not exceed the time limit of your class.
Keyboard Parts A piano or keyboard part may be performed by a professional or by an amateur who is also being adjudicated.
