DEFINITIONS
School Choir Any choir whose performers are all drawn from the same elementary, intermediate, or secondary school is a school choir. The school may be a public or private school.
Elementary School Classes A school choir is eligible for elementary school classes if at least nine-tenths of its performers are from grade 8 or below (Ontario) or from école primaire (Québec).
Intermediate School Classes A school choir is eligible for both elementary school and secondary school classes if either of the following are true:

- The school is a mixed intermediate and secondary school (grade 7 and up) in Ontario, and at least nine-tenths of the ensemble's performers are from grade 7 and 8.
- The school is an école secondaire in Québec, and at least nine-tenths of the ensemble's performers are secondary I, II, or III.
Secondary School Classes A school choir is eligible for secondary school classes if at least nine-tenths of its performers are from grade 9 or above (Ontario) or from école secondaire (Québec).
RULES & REGULATIONS
Adjudication Classes in this discipline are adjudicated competitively. However, participating ensembles receive a mark and a gold, silver, or bronze standing, in lieu of a mark and placement (first, second, or third).
Elementary School Choir

Eligibility Any elementary or intermediate school choir may enter classes in this category, subject to scholastic grade restrictions.
Repertoire Each class specifies the quantity and nature of repertoire selections required for that class in its description. Unless specified otherwise, general rules for repertoire selections in this section are as follows:
- Any selection must be of a level of difficulty suiting the age and average technical proficiency of performers in the ensemble.
- Selections must be contrasting - distinct from one another in style, mood, tempo, and so on.
- Except where otherwise specified, at least one selection must be a Canadian or First Nations selection, composed or arranged by a person who is a Canadian citizen, a member of a First Nation, Inuit, or Métis, or a person who has been resident in Canada or on First Nation, Inuit, or Métis territory for at least 5 years and who wrote or published the selection during that time. Examples include Larysa Kuzmenko, Oscar Peterson, or Murray Adaskin.
- Up to one selection may be a “pops or pop culture” selection, which may be drawn from popular genres, Barbershop repertoire, glee-choir repertoire, or film, television, or video games. A choir specifically dedicated to this repertoire, such as a jazz choir, glee choir, Barbershop choir, and so on, may perform two such selections instead.
- Up to one selection may be a folk song selection.
- When in doubt, the adjudicator determines the suitability of a selection for its class.

Secondary School Choir

Eligibility Any intermediate or secondary school choir may enter classes in this category, subject to scholastic grade restrictions.

School Choir Sacred Songs

Eligibility Any school choir may enter classes in this category. Intermediate school choirs may enter classes for either elementary or secondary schools, subject to grade restrictions applying to a class.
Repertoire Each class specifies the quantity and nature of repertoire selections required for that class in its description. Unless specified otherwise, general rules for repertoire selections in this section are as follows:
- Any selection must be of a level of difficulty suiting the age and average technical proficiency of performers in the ensemble.
- Selections must be contrasting - distinct from one another in style, mood, tempo, and so on.
- All selections must be sacred music selections. A sacred music selection is any concert or liturgical work that is religious or sacred in nature.
- When in doubt, the adjudicator determines the suitability of a selection for its class.
