RULES & REGULATIONS

Assistance Participants may receive minimal assistance from teachers or other persons in order to format their scores. However, participants may not receive assistance in writing the music, such as notes, dynamics, tempo, pedal markings or other similar musical-related score markings, and so on.

Submission of Materials Participants are required to submit scores and recordings to the Festival on or before the date indicated in the formal composition syllabus document found on the Festival's main website. This date is also reproduced in the general due dates page on the site. Participants in competitive classes will receive a non-competitive adjudication if they submit their materials following this date. The Festival will provide a means for performers to submit their materials.

Scores Scores must be clearly legible and include measure numbers at the start of each line. Scores must also be submitted in PDF format, with one (1) file for each selection the participant is including in their entry or entries. A participant in a competitive class will receive a non-competitive adjudicaton if their score does not satisfy these requirements.

Recordings A recording may be a video or audio recording. Recordings may be submitted as files or as links to videos on YouTube, Vimeo, or similar services. Recordings submitted as links must be accessible to Festival personnel and adjudicators without a paid subscription or a user account for their hosting service. For instance, on YouTube, they must be public or unlisted videos.

Repertoire Each class specifies the quantity of repertoire selections required for that class in its description. The difficulty of a selection must suit the technical proficiency of the composer. If a class permits performance of more than one selection, multiple selections must be contrasting - distinct from one another in style, mood, tempo, and so on. When in doubt, the adjudicator determines the suitability of a repertoire selection for its class.

Multi-Movement Works A single multi-movement work counts as a single selection: you may not submit multiple movements of the same work as separate selections. You may include any number of movements from such a work as a selection, and need not submit the entire work.
