Syllabus - Miscellaneous

DEFINITIONS

Miscellaneous Instrument A miscellaneous instrument is any instrument for which no other discipline exists in the Festival syllabus.

Miscellaneous Ensemble A miscellaneous ensemble is any ensemble of two or more performers, in which at least half of the performers in the ensemble are playing a miscellaneous instrument as defined above.

 

RULES & REGULATIONS

Adjudication Classes in this discipline are adjudicated competitively except where otherwise specified.

Eligibility Each category of class in this discipline specifies the eligibility of performer to enter classes within that category.

Instrumentation A performer of any percussion instrument may enter classes in this discipline. If a class specifies miscellaneous ensemble, the ensemble entering such a class must satisfy the definition of a miscellaneous ensemble. If an ensemble class has class-specific eligibility criteria, an ensemble must satisfy those criteria to enter that class.

Repertoire Each class specifies the quantity of repertoire selections required for that class in its description. If a class permits performance of more than one selection, multiple selections must be contrasting - distinct from one another in style, mood, tempo, and so on. Selections must be suited to the technical proficiency of the performer(s). Selections may be accompanied or unaccompanied. When in doubt, the adjudicator determines the suitability of a repertoire selection for its class.

Multi-Movement Works When performing two or more movements from a multi-movement work, you combine such movements into a single selection, and may not perform them as distinct selections. These movements must be contrasting where possible. When performing multiple movements from a multi-movement work in a class, unless otherwise specified you may combine two movements whose total duration is no more than five (5) minutes together as a single selection.
